HOW A LONG-DISTANCE WEDDING WORKS
01
Each of you completes your own part of the Utah County application from wherever you live, together or separately. No travel needed.
02
We officiate 24/7, so it can be morning for one of you and evening for the other. We just need at least 6 hours’ notice.
03
You each log in from your own city, state or country. Your officiant brings you together live on one video call, and you’re legally married.
WHY LONG-DISTANCE COUPLES CHOOSE LOVELIFE
Utah allows both of you to join your ceremony by live video from different locations, even different countries.
No stand-in. You both attend your own ceremony, say your own vows and your own “I do,” face to face on screen.
Don’t put your marriage on hold for jobs, school, visas or travel plans. Celebrate in person when you’re together.
Loved ones in each city can watch live, so both sides of the family share your wedding day.
Tell us how you met and how you’ve made the distance work, and your officiant makes it part of your ceremony.
TIPS FOR LONG-DISTANCE COUPLES
A few tips from couples who have said “I do” across the miles.
01
Test your camera, microphone and connection from each location a day or two before your wedding.
02
Use a laptop or prop up your phone so your partner sees you clearly when you exchange vows.
03
The same flowers, the same colors or rings mailed ahead of time make the moment feel shared.
04
Pick a time that works for both of you, and double-check what time it will be for your partner.
05
Add our livestream and personal wedding page so loved ones in every city can watch live.
06
Many couples celebrate again once they’re together. By then, your marriage is already official.
FAQ
Can you get married if you’re in different states or countries?
Yes. With a Utah marriage license, both of you can join your wedding by live video from different locations, whether that’s two cities, two states or two countries.
Is a long-distance online wedding legally binding?
Yes. Your license is issued by Utah County and your marriage is recorded there, so you receive an official Utah marriage certificate. U.S. states generally recognize marriages that were legally valid where they were performed.
Is this the same as a proxy wedding?
No. In a proxy wedding, someone stands in for one partner. With LoveLife, you both attend your own ceremony live by video and say your own vows.
Can we use our marriage for immigration or a visa?
Many couples do, but immigration rules vary by country and by case. We are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice, so we recommend speaking with a qualified immigration attorney before your ceremony.
Where do our witnesses need to be?
Your two witnesses can be with either of you or join the video call from anywhere. We can also provide them for you.
CLOSER THAN EVER
